    How peak normalization works:

    Peak normalization finds the loudest sample in the audio file and applies the same amount of gain to the entire recording so that the loudest peak reaches the selected target level.

    Because every sample is changed by the same amount, normalization does not compress the dynamic range of the recording. Quiet passages remain quieter than loud passages; the overall level simply moves up or down.
    Important: Peak normalization is different from LUFS loudness normalization. Two files normalized to the same peak level can still sound very different in perceived loudness because their dynamics and average levels may differ.
  • An Audio Normalizer helps adjust the overall level of an audio recording by raising or lowering the entire signal so its loudest peak reaches a selected target level.

    Upload your audio file and choose a target peak in dBFS, or decibels relative to digital full scale. The tool analyzes the recording, detects its highest sample peak, calculates the required gain adjustment, and applies that same gain change across the entire file.

    For example, if a recording peaks at -8 dBFS and you normalize it to -1 dBFS, the entire recording is raised by approximately 7 dB. If the original audio already peaks above the selected target, the file is turned down instead.

    Peak normalization is different from compression. A compressor changes the relationship between louder and quieter parts of a recording, while normalization preserves the existing dynamic range and simply changes the overall signal level.

    It is also important to distinguish peak normalization from LUFS loudness normalization. Two recordings can have identical peak levels but still sound noticeably different in loudness because one may contain more sustained energy or heavier compression.

    Leaving a small amount of peak headroom can also be useful. A target such as -1 dBFS is often safer than pushing the highest sample directly to 0 dBFS.

    Tip: Normalize after major editing is complete. If you later add EQ boosts, compression, effects, or other processing, new peaks can exceed your original target and may require another level check.
