It can be used for testing speakers, subwoofers, headphones, studio monitors, microphones, audio interfaces, stereo channels, and frequency response.
The studio includes traditional test tones such as sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waves, along with white noise, pink noise, and brown noise. It also includes frequency sweeps, tone bursts, and impulse/click tests for more specialized audio testing.
White noise contains energy across the audible frequency spectrum and can be useful for general noise and system testing. Pink noise has more energy toward the lower frequencies and is commonly used for speaker, room, and audio-system testing. Brown noise emphasizes lower frequencies even more and can be useful for low-frequency testing.
The frequency sweep lets you gradually move from one frequency to another, making it useful for identifying resonances, frequency-response problems, rattles, buzzing, or unusual behavior in speakers and rooms. Tone bursts generate short sections of a tone separated by silence, while impulse/click tests create extremely short broadband signals that can be useful for timing and transient-response experiments.
The left, right, and stereo output options can also help identify stereo routing problems, channel differences, and speaker connectivity issues.
Tip: Always begin with the volume very low. Sweep tests and especially low-frequency tones can expose problems that aren't obvious with music, but they can also put significant stress on speakers and subwoofers if played too loudly. Increase the level gradually and stop if you hear distortion, rattling, buzzing, or other unusual sounds.
