    How does the Online Vocal Recorder work?

    The recorder uses your browser's microphone access to capture your voice. You can record vocals by themselves or upload an instrumental or beat to perform along with.

    Choose a vocal mode, set your microphone level, turn on the count-in or metronome, and press Record. Your finished take can be played back directly in the browser and downloaded to your device.
    Tip: Wear headphones when recording over a beat. This prevents the instrumental from playing through your speakers and being picked up again by the microphone. Before recording your full performance, make a short test recording and check that your loudest notes or rap lines are not clipping.

    Start by enabling your microphone and checking the live input meter. The meter helps you see whether your microphone signal is strong enough before you begin recording. If your signal is too low, increase the Mic Gain gradually. If loud notes or rap lines begin sounding distorted, lower the gain.

    You can also upload a beat, instrumental, karaoke track, or demo to perform along with. This makes the recorder useful for practicing songs, writing melodies over beats, testing rap flows, or recording vocal ideas while listening to an instrumental.

    The recorder includes several vocal modes for different types of performances. Clean Vocal provides a more neutral sound, while Warm, Bright, Smooth, and Rap Presence modes make small tonal and dynamic adjustments to the recorded microphone signal.

    Turn on the 4-count when you need a few beats to prepare before recording begins. You can also activate the built-in metronome and enter the BPM of your song to help keep your performance in time.

    Vocal monitoring lets you hear your microphone while performing. When using this feature, headphones are strongly recommended. Playing your monitored voice or backing track through speakers can cause feedback or allow the microphone to record the playback from the speakers.

    After recording, listen to your take using the built-in player and save the recording to your device. Your microphone audio is processed inside your browser rather than requiring you to upload the recording to the website.

    This tool can be useful for vocal practice, songwriting sessions, rap practice, melody writing, audition preparation, harmony ideas, demo vocals, freestyle recording, and capturing inspiration before you forget it.

    Tip: Make a 10–15 second test recording before recording an entire song. Perform one of the loudest parts of your verse or chorus during the test. If it sounds distorted or clipped during playback, lower your microphone gain and try again. Leaving a little extra recording headroom is usually better than recording too loudly.
