  • A song structure generator can help you plan the arrangement of a song before you start writing or recording. Instead of automatically using the same verse–chorus–verse–chorus format, you can experiment with different combinations of verses, pre-choruses, choruses, bridges, intros, outros, breakdowns, and instrumental sections.

Song structure isn't a strict formula. Different genres often have different conventions, but you can deliberately break those conventions when it supports the song. For example, starting with a chorus can immediately introduce the main hook, while delaying the chorus can create anticipation.

One useful technique is to think about energy rather than just sections. Your song might begin quietly, gradually build through the first verse and pre-chorus, reach its highest energy during the chorus, and then drop down for a bridge before returning to the final chorus. This can make the arrangement feel like a journey.

You can also use repetition strategically. Listeners often need to hear a hook multiple times before it becomes memorable, but repeating an entire section exactly the same way isn't always necessary. Try changing the instrumentation, vocal harmonies, drum pattern, or background vocals during later repetitions.

Don't be afraid of shorter songs either. A song doesn't need multiple verses and a long bridge simply because that is traditional.

Tip: After generating a structure, assign an approximate number of bars to each section. Seeing your song as a timeline can make it much easier to determine where the music needs to build, breathe, or change direction.
