5 Ways To Get Free Singing Lessons (That Are Actually Helpful)

Free Singing Lessons

Learning the vital basics of singing doesn't necessarily require expensive lessons or a professional coach. In today's digital age, a ton of free resources are readily available, catering to aspiring vocalists of all levels.

While paid lessons are obviously going to give you better quality, starting with free lessons is a good way to get an intro into the world of vocal performance without worrying about budget or feeling pressured.

Youtubers

YouTube has emerged as a treasure trove for aspiring singers, with countless channels offering free singing lessons.

Renowned vocal coaches and experienced singers share their expertise, covering everything from basic vocal exercises to advanced techniques.

Some channel recommendations I have include EricArceneaux, Healthy Vocal Techniques, Jeff Rolka, who all give great little bits of lessons and helpful tips for singers.

Whether you're a beginner looking to understand the fundamentals or an experienced vocalist seeking to refine your skills, YouTube provides an extensive and accessible platform for personalized vocal development.

Community Choirs

Joining a community choir is not only an excellent way to work on your singing skills but also a chance to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for music.

These choirs, often organized at the local level, provide a supportive and collaborative environment where singers of all backgrounds come together to create beautiful harmonies.

Community choirs bring a sense of unity and camaraderie, making the journey of learning to sing an enriching and social experience.

Churches

Many churches host choir practices and singing sessions, welcoming individuals of all ages and skill levels.

Participating in a church choir not only allows you to hone your singing abilities but also offers a spiritual dimension to your musical journey.

The uplifting atmosphere of a church choir can be particularly beneficial for those seeking a harmonious blend of faith, community, and the joy of singing.

Free Online Courses

Various reputable platforms offer free online courses that cater to singers of all levels. These courses often cover a range of topics, including vocal techniques, music theory, and performance skills.

The structured nature of online courses provides a comprehensive learning experience, allowing participants to progress at their own pace while benefiting from expert guidance and curated content.

Sites like 30 Day Singer and OrangeLearn offer intro courses in hopes of getting the viewers to move on to their paid courses, which will have more value.

Singing Apps

In the era of smartphones, singing apps have become valuable tools for vocalists on the go. These apps offer a range of features, from vocal warm-ups and exercises to real-time feedback on pitch and tone.

With the convenience of carrying a virtual vocal coach in your pocket, these apps empower singers to practice and grow their skills at their own convenience.

Erol Studios and Sing Sharp are a couple of examples of decent apps, that will also encourage you to go onto in-app purchases, but the basics are nice.

Singing Blogs (Like Mine!)

Singing blogs provide a more personalized perspective on vocal development, offering detailed articles, video demonstrations, and downloadable resources to enhance your singing skills.

Whether you're looking for advice on technique, motivation, or overcoming challenges, singing blogs can be a valuable addition to your free singing lesson toolkit.

I have a whole subcategory of my blog dedicated to singing pointers and tips, and singing happens to be the thing I get paid the most for in my music career!

A Few Tips For Free Lessons

Since there may not be an instructor there to guide you with your method of choice, I want to make sure you keep a few singing necessities in mind.

Always warm up your voice before diving into more intensive vocal exercises or songs. Gentle warm-up exercises help prevent strain and ensure your vocal cords are ready for action.

Maintain good posture while singing. Stand or sit up straight to allow for proper breath control. Speaking of breath, focus on diaphragmatic breathing to support your voice and sustain notes effectively.

Use technology to your advantage. Record yourself singing regularly and listen to the recordings critically. This self-assessment can help you identify areas for improvement.

Progress in singing takes time. Be patient with yourself, celebrate small victories, and keep going through challenges. Consistent effort yields long-term improvement.
